Description
Through & Through is a poem with 100 verses! I seen a documentary on the Channel Five about a wee five year old boy who kept telling his mother that he used to live in Barra, an island off the west coast of Scotland, and that he had fallen through a Hole in the Sky. The wee boy described the island and the cottage where he stayed and they flew him and his mother to Barra, and it turned out he was right. And so my imagination started to run wild.
The poem is set in the Commercial bar in Lennoxtown where I fall asleep in the toilet and wake up to discover that I have been locked in the pub. Then three auld friends of mine fall Through a hole in the sky. Big Sanny Wingate and my father George Craven and Robert Dempsie and I start to give them free beer and whisky.
And so a party starts as more and more people fall through the Hole in the Sky. Then Bidgy McLaughlin appears wi’ “Wee Jinky” Jimmy Johnstone and Jim Baxter and Davie Cooper and all sorts of local characters and scoundrels, poachers and pigeon men and the “HOLE IN THE WALL GANG” led by the one and only Sir Angus Darroch.
On and on through the night the party rages and spreads up stairs to the lounge……. not to be missed.
